Wholegrain or instant flakes: which, when and why

They look the same on the shelf, but behave differently in the bowl.

On the shelf they sit side by side and look the same. But wholegrain and instant flakes behave differently in the bowl — here’s how to choose.

Wholegrain flakes

Dejunel Wholegrain Oat Flakes (500 g) keep the grain almost whole. They cook in 8–10 minutes and make a porridge with texture, where you can feel the grains. They’re the choice for a hearty porridge, granola and baking.

Instant flakes

Dejunel Instant Oat Flakes (400 g) are pressed thinner and pre-cooked. They’re ready in 2–3 minutes with just hot liquid, no boiling. They’re for rushed mornings and for a finer, creamier porridge.

So which one?

  • You have time and want texture → wholegrain.
  • You have 3 minutes → instant.
  • Dough, bars, granola → wholegrain.

Both are 100% oats. They differ only in how much processing has touched them — and how much time you have in the morning.
